Community guidelines and your privacy

Thank you for joining the Ageing Australia Community and Resource Engagement (CaRE) platform for our Communities of Practice.

CaRE provides you with a user-friendly platform to connect with your peers, share advice and knowledge, and benefit from ongoing dialogue. To get maximum benefit and have the best possible experience through CaRE, we’ve established some guiding principles for participation.

Please acquaint yourself with these guidelines. It’s important that you agree you have read and will follow the guidelines before becoming actively involved in our Communities of Practice, because it helps generate a positive experience for everyone.

Should a CaRE member repeatedly fail to preserve an environment of fruitful and productive dialogue, we may need to take action with a period of suspension – something we hope is never required.

If after reading this document you have questions about CaRE, please refer to our CaRE FAQs or contact the CaRE support team, and if you require technical, legislative or operational advice, aged care and seniors housing operators should continue to use the contact us form on the Ageing Australia website

Welcome aboard, we look forward to your contribution to thoughtful discussion.

Community guidelines

  • Respect others. Focus on the content of posts and not on the people making them. Please extend the benefit of the doubt to newer guests and members; there’s no such thing as a stupid question.
  • Respect the purpose of the community. Use the community to share successes, challenges, constructive feedback, questions and goals instead of products or services that you provide. If you’ve found a product or service helpful, please share your experience with the group in an informative way.
  • Be cautious when discussing products. Information posted on the discussion groups and in the libraries is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander and antitrust laws.
  • Be cautious when giving advice. Discussion posts and messages must not encourage or facilitate members to arrive at any agreement that either expressly or impliedly leads to price fixing, a boycott of another's business, or other conduct intended to illegally restrict free trade. Posts and messages that encourage or facilitate an agreement about the following subjects are inappropriate: prices, discounts or terms or conditions of sale; salaries; profits, profit margins or cost data; market shares, sales territories or markets; allocation of customers or territories; or selection, rejection or termination of customers or suppliers.
  • Abide by common sense and the law. All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive or illegal content is strictly prohibited. Do not post anything you would not want the world to see or you would not want anyone to know came from you.
  • Respect intellectual property. Post content you have personally created or have permission to use, or provide the appropriate attribution to the content creator.
  • Respect copyright and privacy. Do not post any information or other material protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner. By posting material, the posting party warrants and represents that he or she owns the copyright with respect to such material or has received permission from the copyright owner. Do not share anyone's contact details with anyone else within or externally to CaRE.
  • Be clear about usage and attribution. When posting items in our collaborative environment, please indicate if the item is not available for reuse. It’s also advisable to contact the owner of any content you would like to reuse.
  • Select the correct community. Post your discussion or documents only to the most appropriate community. This helps ensure all discussion posts receive the best response.

Discussion group etiquette

  • Define the subject matter. State concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your post and makes it easier to search the archives by subject.
  • Use individual messaging. Send messages such as ‘thanks for the information' or 'me, too' to individuals, not to the entire list. Do this by using the 'reply to sender' link in every message.
  • Keep administrative messages separate. Do not send administrative messages, such as ‘remove me from the list' to the group. Instead, use the web interface to change your settings to remove yourself from a list.
  • Changing contact details. If you would like your contact details updated, you will need to do this via the CaRE support team - memberrelations@ageingaustralia.asn.au - as CaRE information is that of our association CRM platform.

Privacy policy

Any personal information you provide to us including and similar to your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address will not be released, sold or rented to any entities or individuals outside of our organisation except as noted in the item ‘Personal information’. See the Ageing Australia Privacy Policy.

Providing commentary of a negative nature

There are many ways to share your concerns with us such as via your state manager or the member advisory team.

Within CaRE we encourage you to participate positively in forums, member meetings, special interest groups and workshops where you can highlight key information of which you feel we should be made aware.
